Ayurveda Beyond Academia

Udayamrutam 1 – Eye treatment in Traditional Ayurveda

A Soul Talk with Vaidya Neelamana Udayan Namboothiri

“Ayurveda Beyond Academia” is a heartfelt journey with Prem Krishnan, an Ayurvedic enthusiast and a healer, as he steps outside textbooks to uncover the living wisdom passed down through generations.

This series brings to light the practices, people, and philosophies often missed by modern education—but alive in India’s soil, speech, and spirit.

We are happy to introduce Vaidya Neelamana Udayan Namboothiri, a respected traditional Ayurvedic healer from the Boudhaniya Brahmin lineage.

Udayan Namboothiri is not just a practitioner — he is a true artisan of Ayurveda. He personally prepares most of his medicines, collecting herbs, roots, leaves, flowers, and bark from both wild forests and cultivated gardens. For ingredients like milk, ghee, and honey, he only uses pure, trusted sources.

What makes him truly special is his strict commitment to traditional methods. Some of his remedies are prepared only on specific, sacred days mentioned in ancient Ayurvedic texts — days that come only once a year. This careful timing adds to the power of the medicine.

Yet, Udayan Namboothiri believes that medicine should be minimal. According to him, the real cure lies in eating the right food, in the right amount, at the right time and living a disciplined, natural life.

His healing approach is deeply holistic. He treats the root cause of illness by restoring balance in the body and mind using:Traditional Medicine, Nature-based living Fresh, sattvic food

With deep wisdom and humility, Sri Udayan continues to inspire many on the path of true well-being through ancient Ayurveda.
